Safety routines
Arrival and pickup
A guide is at the meadow gate at 8:30 and again at 3:00. Only the adults on a family's pickup list may collect a student, and we ask to see ID until we know you.
On the trail
Both guides walk with the group. Students stay on the trail and in sight, and the guides count heads at every stop and every gate.
The creek
Creek days stay on the bank, in closed shoes, with a guide at the water's edge. The guides check the water before the group goes down, and a high or fast creek moves the day to the meadow.
Weather
Rain means rain gear. Thunder or lightning sends everyone into the room until it has passed. In the cold we shorten the walk, and in the heat we move it to the morning, with shade breaks. Ice or snow on the mountain road closes the school.
Ticks, sun and insects
From spring to fall students wear long pants and socks on trail days, and the guides check hats and sunscreen. Families get a note when a tick check is needed at home.
Allergies and illness
Tell us about allergies at the visit; we ask privately once you enroll, and both guides keep each student's plan within reach. A student with a fever stays home until the next morning, and a guide calls a parent when a student is unwell at school.
